Years of Service: Dan Ashton, It's Hard To Say Goodbye!

No, he's Not Elvis, but he is one of Warren County United Way's legends. Dan Ashton, pictured above (center), served as Warren County United Way's executive director and then went on to serve in a number of different capacities: member, board of directors; member, endowment committee; and finally a member of the executive committee (holding the offices of treasurer and president during his tenure). Due to the fact that Dan served in so many areas of the organization for so many years, it was a pleasure for Warren County United Way staff and board members to present him with a plaque for his years of dedicated service.

At the height of the holidays, Warren County United Way executive committee members: Cindy Lewis (secretary); Trevor Davies (president); Tom Seinkewcz (treasurer); and Chris Gavin (president of Midwest Bank) surprised Dan at work (Midwest bank) where the photo, above, was taken. It is not easy to surprise Dan, because he is very much on top of things. We can truly say that the giving and receiving on this occasion was heartfelt.

In a thank you letter to the board of directors, Dan talked about his diverse service and the community. "I've been witness to every aspect of Warren County United Way from a variety of perspectives over the past 15 years," he said. "Those perspectives have given me a deep respect for the people who serve in all of our agancies and the people who volunteer their time and efforts as board members as well as the two people who are charged with making everything run smoothly."

Dan went on to say that his experiences proved to him that "our little United Way" is a vital, necessary member of our community. "Its ability to come alongside our member agencies in both small and large ways has strengthned our community."
